Curriculum

Our program is inspired by the Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Creative Curriculums. Our integrated, hands on curriculum inspires critical thinking and creativity. Although we have a monthly theme, the children’s responses, questions, and interests determine what twists and turns our day will take. Our integrated curriculum include math, language and literacy, science, social studies, art, dramatic play, music, dance, Spanish, sign language, story books, outdoor activities, and cooking.

Our teachers make observations and complete assessments for every Little Scholar in order to determine that he or she has met every appropriate developmental milestone. Our observations and documentation also guide us in creating lesson plans and preparing the environment to maximize opportunities to strengthen and develop specific skills.

TERRIFIC TWOS

We encourage our Terrific Twos to explore, observe, and play at their own pace. By the end of the school year, most of our Twos can recognize their first name in print, recite the alphabet, count to 20, and recognize colors, shapes, and some letters and numbers. We offer a gentle balance of challenge and assistance with developmentally appropriate activities. Our Terrific Twos are learning to share, play with others, and developing self-awareness.

THRIVING THREES

Our Threes are thriving while exploring, observing, and playing in a developmentally appropriate environment. Our Thriving Threes learn to recite the alphabet, numbers (in English to 50 and Spanish to 20), colors (in English and Spanish), and the days of the week. Our Threes are also learning the phonetic sound of each letter as well as identifying the vowels. Cutting, gluing, and learning to hold crayons and scissors correctly are mastered this year. Writing begins by tracing their names, numbers (1-10), and upper and lower case letters. Our Threes are allowed to thrive at their own pace but most are writing their first and last names by the end of the school year. Children are given classroom jobs to form a sense of responsibility and independence. Social skills such as sharing and pretend play are developing. Self regulation is developing and encouraged.

FANTASTIC FOURS & FABULOUS FIVES

Kindergarten is soon to come and our Little Scholars are well-prepared! They are mastering their Thriving Threes skills. In addition, our Fantastic Fours and Fabulous Fives are focused on improving their writing skills, mastering phonetic sounds, blending letters to prepare for reading (some are reading), computing simple addition and subtraction, memorizing sight words, and learning self-facts. We invoke reading comprehension, listening skills, and critical thinking skills in our Little Scholars at every opportunity throughout the school day.
